Distance from Dubai to Mumbai
🇦🇪 Dubai, United Arab Emirates → 🇮🇳 Mumbai, India
The dashed line joins the two city centres; the true shortest path on the globe is a great-circle arc, and real flight paths also bend around restricted airspace and follow airways.
Across the Arabian Sea
From Dubai the route crosses the Gulf of Oman, passes the eastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula near Muscat and heads straight across the Arabian Sea, reaching India south of the Kathiawar peninsula of Gujarat. Almost the whole flight is over water. It is one of the most heavily served routes between India and the Gulf. Flights link Dubai International (DXB) with Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM). The new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) opened in December 2025, initially for domestic flights.
The rupee coast
The connection is much older than aviation. Wooden dhows carried dates, pearls and dried fish from the Gulf to Bombay and brought back rice, textiles, spices and timber. The ties were so close that the Indian rupee was legal tender in Dubai and the other Trucial States. From 1959 the Reserve Bank of India issued a special “Gulf rupee” for the region. Dubai replaced it with its own currency in 1966, and the other sheikhdoms did the same over the following years. Dhows still trade from Dubai Creek, and Indian business families, many with roots in Gujarat and Mumbai, remain a pillar of Dubai’s economy.
Travel note: airports and airspace in the Gulf region, including Dubai, were closed or restricted at times during the 2026 war involving Iran. Check the current status with your airline before travelling.
