Distance from Jakarta to Delhi
🇮🇩 Jakarta, Indonesia → 🇮🇳 Delhi, India
The dashed line joins the two city centres; the true shortest path on the globe is a great-circle arc, and real flight paths also bend around restricted airspace and follow airways.
The flight path
Flying north-west from Jakarta, the direct line crosses southern Sumatra and the Strait of Malacca, then the Andaman Sea, passing almost directly over the Andaman Islands. After that it crosses the Bay of Bengal, enters India near Bhubaneswar on the Odisha coast and flies across the Gangetic plain to Delhi. Regular nonstop service between Soekarno–Hatta (CGK) and Indira Gandhi International (DEL) has been scarce. India’s direct link to Jakarta has mainly been from Mumbai, and most Delhi itineraries connect through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok. Check current schedules, as new routes are added from time to time.
An old cultural bridge
Indian influence reached Java and Sumatra well over a thousand years ago through trade. Hindu and Buddhist kingdoms such as Srivijaya and Majapahit drew on Indian religion and statecraft, and Java’s great temples at Borobudur and Prambanan reflect that heritage. The Ramayana is still performed in Indonesian shadow-puppet theatre and dance. In the modern era the two newly independent republics were close: Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, was the chief guest at India’s first Republic Day in 1950. Both were leading voices at the 1955 Bandung Conference. Today they are the world’s first and fourth most populous countries. Compare them on India vs Indonesia.
