Asian Countries by Area
The 49 countries of Asia cover about 32.0 million km² between them. Size is very unevenly spread: China, India and Kazakhstan together account for 49% of that area, while the median Asian country is only about 181,035 km², the size of Cambodia.
The table ranks all 49 countries from largest to smallest by total area. Russia is not included: the UN classes it as European, but its Asian part (Siberia and the Far East, about 13.1 million km²) would otherwise top the list.

Patterns in the ranking
- A steep drop after the top seven. Seven countries are larger than 1.5 million km². Number 8, Pakistan, is only 56% the size of number 7, Mongolia.
- East Asia is the largest sub-region, with about 11.8 million km², mostly because of China and Mongolia. West Asia has the most countries but much of it is small, apart from the Arabian deserts of Saudi Arabia.
- Island and city-states fill the bottom. The Maldives, Singapore and Bahrain are all under 1,000 km². Singapore and Bahrain keep growing slowly through land reclamation.
- Kazakhstan (2,724,900 km²) is the largest landlocked country in the world, and Indonesia is the largest made up entirely of islands.
